It's Time to Invest: in Our Health

Updated: Sep 23, 2020

Hello everyone! Welcome to What’s Cooking with Coach?! I am Coach Kris. Now, this shortened podcast version will be offering just a tasty morsel of an appetizer for you listeners to preview upcoming topics. We hope you enjoy what’s on the menu today (and the meals, I mean podcasts) to come!

Today’s course: Investment. Now I am not referring money, which honestly, we all need a little more of! But I digress. The investment I am going to discuss: Our health. We always seem to look at ways to save money and move our financial goals, and work towards getting that new job that pays more, and we do so typically in a positive direction, but what is lost in the hustle of life is, often, our health.

Now, Well, what is health? Health is defined as the “state of being free from physical or psychological disease, illness or malfunction; The state of well-being and balance of mental, physical, and social components of life. Health and well-being is, essentially, a web of interconnected strands that come together to make us whole.

The three major strands that we focus are: Physical, Mental/Emotional, and Social. Physical health refers to the human body and we take care of it through nutrition habits, physical activity, sleeping habits, and hygiene practices. Mental/Emotional health refers to how we handle stress, improve our education, and handle our emotions. Social health is the act of how we communicate with other people and interact with others in social groups; friends, family, peers.

Why are these three strands important? When focused on, physical health delays disease and boosts strength and endurance. Mental health can improve our stress management skills and emotional control. Social health improvements can lead to sense of belonging and purpose and improve our self-esteem.

Summary: We need to work on our overall health and well-being as much as we work to make our money. Invest, Invest, Invest! Take the time to take care of your mind, body, and soul. We only have one life. Good health will help us lead a full life and opportunity to enjoy it, as opposed to the alternative.

Conclusion: That is all of the time we have for today. We hope you enjoyed our podcast! As time goes on, we will evolve our menu and dive right in to more topics that help lead to positive and healthful choices to improve teens and student-athletes.
