¼ Cup Sugar
3 Tbl Milk
1 Egg
2 tsp Salt
4 Cups Flour
¼ Cup Butter – Melted
Optional
Minced Garlic
Dried Herbs of Choice
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, combine yeast and warm water (microwave water for 30 seconds). Let stand for about 10 minutes until the mixture becomes foamy.
-
Add in sugar, milk, egg, and salt. Stir until combined.
-
Add flour 1 cup at a time until dough begins to form.
-
Remove dough and knead on floured surface for 2-3 minutes. The remaining flour will be used during this process. It is ok if not quite all the flour is used.
-
Once dough is formed and smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for at least 1 hour. Overnight in refrigerator is fine too.
-
When dough has doubled in size, punch it down. Divide dough into 12 pieces. Form little balls with each piece.
-
Let the dough balls sit for 15-20 minutes. This will allow them to rise again.
-
Once time has elapsed. Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball into a thin circle. It is fine if they are not perfect!
-
Preheat grill (or griddle or cast-iron pan).
-
Before grilling, lightly brush melted butter onto one side of the naan. Grill that side for about 2 minutes. Before flipping, brush butter on uncooked side. Flip and cook for 2 minutes.
-
Repeat this process until all pieces are cooked.
-
Serve with traditional Indian food or use as an appetizer.
